No musical family today is more instumental in upholding the best principles of the tradition than the Mulcahy's Abbeyfeale, West Limerick. Mick, Louise and Michelle Mulcahy play a dazzling array of iinstruments between them but it's the sweetness and tunefulness of their ensembleplaying that is most striking. They have an unmistakeable, infectious sound and their skill and enthusiasm comes from a lifetime of playing together. Their latest family album' "The Reel Note", has received worldwide acclaim and was awarded 'Album of the Year' by Tradconnect in 2017. The family has made regular appearances in the top five traditional album charts in the United States, Ireland and the U.K. According to The Irish Times -" if you like the 'pure drop' here it is - traditional Irish music at its natural, unadulterated and seductive best".
The O'Brien Family
Mick O'Brien is a highly regarded performer and teacher of the Uilleann pipes. At the age of nine, Mick started learning the pipes in the famous Thomas Street Pipers club in Dublin. A precocious talent, daughter Ciara started learning violin at the young age of three. An award-winner across various instruments she is in demand as a teacher of fiddle and harp and is invited to conduct workshops in Ireland and Europe. Not to be outdone, Aoife is the leader of the newly formed Clare Memory Orchestra and performs reguarly with the contemporary group Crash Ensemble. A wonderful opportunity to see these virtusos share the stage, this is a family with music in its very DNA.
